On Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013 the synod and its visitors assembled in the sanctuary of Hudsonville PRC to hear the sermon of Mr. Erik Guichelaar. Synod unanimously approved his sermon, stating that the sermon demonstrated that Mr. Guichelaar has the gifts to preach a sermon for the edification of God’s people. Synod took this opportunity to thank God for the sermon and to thank the seminary faculty for their faithful labors.
The PRC Synod is the broadest church assembly or gathering, made up of 20 delegates, 5 ministers and 5 elders from each Classis (of which there are two in the PRC). It meets annually during the second week of June to treat the ecclesiastical matters of the denomination (Missions, Seminary, etc.) and whatever matters have been brought from the narrower assemblies, viz., the Consistories and the Classes. The decisions of this body are published in the annual "Acts of Synod".
Synod is to convene on Tuesday morning at 8:30 AM. Following a specimen sermon by Seminarian Erik Guichelaar Tuesday morning, the various committees of pre-advice will spend the rest of Tuesday drawing-up their advice. Sem.Guichelaar's exam is to take place Wednesday and Thursday mornings. His graduation is scheduled for Thursday evening. The various sessions of Synod are open to the public, and you are invited to attend. Synod covets your prayers for the guidance of the Spirit in their deliberations.
