CONGREGATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands, Serve the LORD with gladness.  Come before His presence with singing.”  Today we are privileged to come into God’s presence in worship, to give Him the glory due Him and hear His blessed Word.  May the Lord bless and strengthen us to this end.

 

We welcome Prof. B. Gritters and Rev. G. Eriks to our pulpit and fellowship today.  Next week Sunday, the Lord willing, Prof. B. Gritters and Rev. C. Haak will preach for us.

 

A congregational meeting will be held following the worship service this morning to select one of the following trio to receive a call to be our next minister: Candidate Daniel Holstege, Rev. Clayton Spronk, and Rev. Martin VanderWal.

 

The Sunday School has concluded another season.  We wish to especially thank our teachers: Jodee VanOverloop: Pre-School & Kindergarten, Audrey Starrett: 1st Grade, Sarah Courtney: 2nd Grade, Mark VandenBerg: 3rd & 4th Grades, Brent Boverhof: 5th Grade, Chad Warner: 6th & 7th Grades, Paul Starrett: 8th Grade, and substitutes: Loree Bosman, Sarah Kooienga, Brooke Boverhof.  May the Lord bless the instruction given to our covenant seed through this means.

 

Next week Sunday morning, the Lord willing, the sacrament of Holy Baptism will be administered to Ella Grace, infant daughter of Matt and Jodi VanOverloop.

 

We rejoice with Jared and Jeanine Looyenga who were blessed this past Monday with the birth of a son, Evan Ross.  Mother and baby are well. “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD.”

 

Mrs. Barb Cammenga’s surgery this past Friday to relieve a pinched nerve in her back was successful and she was expected to return home yesterday.  We pray for continued recovery and strength.

 

Mr. Roger Berends is scheduled for surgery to repair a hernia at Holland Hospital this week Friday.   Roger is now residing at Grace of Douglas in Douglas. If anyone desires to visit Roger, please first call his son, Steve, at 269-365-8415.

 

Members of the congregation are encouraged to submit names of qualified men to consider for nomination to serve on Council to any one of the men currently serving.

 

All material for the September TULIP must be submitted today to Lori Ellerbroek, Heather Bartelds or a member of the Program Committee.


Fall Family Visitation is scheduled to begin next week Tuesday, September 7.

 

 Hudsonville Women’s Bible Study begins September 15. The daily lessons begin September 2.  Study sheets are available in the back of church.  Please sign up by September 5 to be included in a discussion group.

 

SCHOOL OPENINGS: Heritage Christian School will begin this Tuesday, August 31 at 7:52 a.m.; Adams Christian School will begin Tuesday, September 7 at 8:30 a.m.; Hope Christian School will begin Tuesday, September 7, at 8:15 a.m.; Covenant Christian High School will begin Tuesday, September 7 at 8:10 a.m. We give thanks to God for His covenant faithfulness and pray for continued blessings in the school year ahead.

 

DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

•Seminary Convocation will be held on September 15, at 7:30 p.m., in Southwest PRC.  Prof. Barrett Gritters will speak on the topic “The Minister as Physician.”  The seminary will be open after the Convocation, to allow everyone to see the newly renovated classrooms.

•Trinity PRC has extended a call to Rev. D. Kuiper; Edgerton PRC has extended a call to Candidate Daniel Holstege; Hope PRC has a trio of Rev. C. Haak, Candidate D. Holstege and Rev. W. Langerak.

•This past Monday, the Lord suddenly delivered Pastor Rinat Fazliev to glory.  Pastor Fazliev led a small house-church in Uzbekistan and has been in contact with the PRC through the Contact Committee for several years.  He had been sick for some time with a severe kidney disease.  Pastor Dilshod Abdulaev, the other PRC contact in Uzbekistan, conducted the funeral.  Rinat is survived by his wife, Galina, and children, Mark (11) and Yana (7).  Let’s remember the Fazliev family and the Uzbek churches before our heavenly Father's throne. May our gracious God give them the hope of resurrection and life in Him who is the Resurrection and the Life.

August 31 – The Hope Heralds will present a concert at Sunset Manor on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

September 1 - Sophomore Orientation for Covenant Christian High at 7:30 p.m.

September 2 – Eastside Christian School will be hosting their Picnic on the Patio at 6:15 p.m. at First PRC.  Please come and join us for burgers and hotdogs!  We hope to see you there!

September 6 – Plan to attend a Breakfast on Labor Day hosted by Grace PRC young peoples at Hope School. Proceeds for the 2011 convention. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

September 12 – Hope Heralds will present a concert at First Jenison CRC on Cottonwood at 8 p.m.

September 18 - Heritage Christian School's Fall Kid's Clothing and Toy Sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. - noon.  Items for sale include gently used kid's clothing, toys, sporting goods, winter wear, baby items and more.

September 22 - Reformed Doctrines Class, taught by Prof. David Engelsma, will meet, 7:45 p.m. in Faith PRC fellowship hall and will meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.  The subject of the first class is "The Holy Spirit and the Charismatic Movement," concluding the study of the doctrine of "The Holy Spirit." We plan to decide on a new general topic. All interested in reviewing Reformed, Biblical doctrine are invited!

October 14 – Fall Lecture by Prof. Hanko hosted by Byron Center PRC Evangelism Committee at 7:30 p.m. Bring your friends and family. More details to follow.

October 16 - Heritage Christian School Fundraisers is hosting a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament for all students in grades 3-9 to be held at CCHS on Saturday, October 16. Teams of 4 players can register for $60 per team. Forms are available at the school office. Call Charlynn Kamps if you have any questions (669-7219).
