Meetings

Sunday School will meet this morning until 11:45.

Council and Consistory will meet Thursday evening beginning at 7:00 PM.

From the Pastor

Dear congregation,

Liz and I and children will be leaving this week Thursday for Spokane. We plan to load the truck on Thursday beginning around noon (and would appreciate any help you can give, even later in the afternoon). Our plan is to leave from church later that evening, around 8:30 PM (after I conduct two confession of faith interviews at the council meeting), and travel to the Chicago area for that night. Feel free to stop by around that time to bid us good bye.

My brother Steven will be driving the truck out to Spokane the following week. We plan to spend the weekend in the Iowa area where I’ll be preaching in the morning in Calvary (Hull) and in the evening in Sioux Falls, and then head on from there to Spokane where we hope to arrive on Wednesday July 15. So, today we are with you for the last time. Tonight I’ll not be here as I’ll be preaching at Faith.

We want to say thanks to you all for your love and prayers over the past years and also for the program and farewell gifts we have received. Please remember us in prayer as we go forward. I will stay in touch and keep you informed of the work in Spokane. Remember to visit us if you are able. May the Lord be with you all and answer your prayers as a congregation.

In Christ, Rev. and Liz Kleyn and family

Myanmar Update: The Council of Hope PRC continues to labor with Rev. Titus and the saints in Myanmar. At present our pastor, Rev. J. Laning, is mentoring Rev. Titus in the catechetical instruction he is giving to the members of his congregation. Also, we are happy to report that some of the men of Rev. Titus' congregation have found part-time work. In addition, though we have been able to reduce the amount of cyclone relief, your continued collections and gifts for this cause are greatly needed and appreciated. Those interested in keeping current on the developments of our work in Myanmar are encouraged to check out new postings on our blog at "prca.org". Click on "News and Views of the Protestant Reformed Churches."

Calvin Seminar: The Reformation of the 16th century, like every true reformation of the church, was a return to proper church discipline.  John Calvin led the way in promoting the restoration of biblical church discipline.  He viewed the exercise of discipline as necessary for the safeguarding of the gospel, the fencing of the sacraments, and the holiness of the lives of church members.  It belongs to our tribute to Calvin that we examine his teaching with regard to this important mark of the true church of Jesus Christ.  Prof. Ron Cammenga will present “Calvin’s Struggle for Church Discipline” at the Calvin Conference sponsored by the Protestant Reformed Theological Seminary.  Plan to attend!  Sept. 3-5, 2009.
