PRC and Sister-Church News for the Week of April 15, 2018 *(Updated)

CONGREGATIONAL NEWS:

  • Many of the PRC congregations in West Michigan cancelled their Sunday morning worship services due to a bad ice storm that hit the area. Our mid-western churches also experienced this storm, but a day or two earlier.

  • Rev. A. Brummel (Heritage PRC, Sioux Falls, SD) continues to consider the call to Calvary PRC (Hull, IA), received on March 29.  *UPDATE: This morning Rev. Brummel announced his acceptance of this call.

  • Candidate Jon Langerak is currently assisting in the Limerick Reformed Fellowship: (This from her bulletin): "He ...plans to stay until Monday 23 April.  ...While Candidate Langerak is here, he will lead our worship services, lead the Bible study (Tuesdays at 8 PM), and teach the catechism class of Sebastian and Jason (Wednesdays at 3 PM). Candidate Langerak will lead our worship on Sundays 1 April, 15 April, and 22 April (on 8 April, Candidate Langerak ...will be in the CPRC in Ballymena, while Rev. Stewart preaches in the LRF)."

  • California Summer Retreat: Hope PRC in Redlands, CA is hosting a retreat this summer, July 2-5, 2018. Registration opened March 31st at 8am PST, with a limit of 69 attendees, ages 18-35yo.   • From the PRC Seminary comes this April news:
    • The seminary has now completed eleven weeks of classes, with four left in this second semester. Continue to pray for faculty and students that they might finish the year well.
    • The second round of practice is scheduled for April 16 and 23 for the sophomore and junior students.
    • The upcoming internships of Seminarians Matt Kortus and Jacob Maatman have been confirmed and announced. Sem. Kortus will be interning at Trinity PRC under Rev. N. Decker and his Council and Sem. Maatman will intern at Hudsonville PRC under Rev. G. Eriks and his Council. The internship program runs from July 1 to December 31.

  • Concerning our sister church in Ballymena, N. Ireland, Covenant PRC, we call attention to the following:
    • Covenant PRC's latest newsletter was received and posted recently (February 2018). And don't forget her other publication - Covenant Reformed News! That latest issue (March 2018) may be found here.
    • Join Reformed believers from around the world at the 2018 British Reformed Fellowship family conference at Hebron Hall in South Wales from Saturday, July 21, to Saturday, July 28. Our speakers, Prof. David Engelsma and Rev. Andy Lanning, will lecture on "The Reformed Family—According to the Word of God."     • Her latest newsletter (February 2018) - Reformed News Asia - was recently posted and may be found on this page. Watch for the March issue soon!
    • The latest young peoples' magazine, Salt Shakers, was received and posted recently (March 2018 - cf. image above). Check that out on this page.

  • The PRC has a "corresponding relationship" with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) of Australia. We remember these brothers and sisters in our prayers and labors too.

  • The six choirs (283 voices) of the Protestant Reformed High Schools (Covenant, Heritage [Dyer, IN], Hope [Redlands, CA], Faith [Randolph, WI], Loveland, and Trinity [Hull, IA]) presented a combined concert of edifying choral music this past Thursday, April 12, in Dordt College’s B.J.   • Busing to Convention from Michigan: due to housing limitations in Iowa, the Iowa convention steering committee has asked that the people coming from Michigan go directly to the camp on Monday. Busing is lined up to leave the Grand Rapids area Monday morning around midnight to get to the camp in time for registration. Cost to ride the bus is around $100.   • Don't forget to listen to the Reformed Witness Hour each Sunday! Today Rev. R. Kleyn (Covenant of Grace PRC, Spokane, WA) resumes his series on the OT book of Ruth with the message "May God Bless Your Marriage!" based on Ruth 4:11-12.
    • NEW RWH Station - The Cornerstone PRC Word and Deed committee has partnered with the Reformed Witness Hour to air their messages on the radio in the Chicago area. Beginning today, September 10, the broadcast can be heard every Sunday at 4:00PM on WYLL 1160AM or on the internet at www.1160hope.com. Please tune in and encourage others to do so as opportunity arises in your personal witnessing.

 MISSION NEWS:

  • From Byron Center PRC's bulletin this week we learn that our home missionary, Rev. A. Spriensma, was hospitalized this past week but was able to return home on Friday. We remember this servant of the Lord and his wife, Alva, in our prayers as he recovers.

  • The February/March 2018 newsletter of the Limerick Reformed Fellowship mission station is now posted on this page.   • Georgetown PRC's bulletin reminds us of a prayer need with regard to their work in Vellore, India: "Pray for the Sola Gratia program taught by Pastor Paul Raj in India to four students and six area pastors."

  • The last Philippines mission newsletter is dated November 2017 and may be found on this PRC webpage. The annual Doon/Foreign Mission Committee delegation visit to the Philippines took place from February 15-27, 2018. For pictures and reports on this year's delegation, look up the Kleyn's blog for pictures and details (cf. next note).

  • Don't forget to follow the Kleyn's blog on life and activities in the Philippines. And that also includes the Holstege's one! And the Smits once again too!
  • From this Sunday's bulletins of the Provident Christian Church in Marikina, the Philippines and the Maranatha PRC in Valenzuela we find the following notes concerning their pastors as well as concerning our missionaries and their labors today and in this coming week:
    • Provident CC: 
      • Rev. Kleyn will preach both times today. Rev. Holstege will preach for the PRC in Bulacan while Rev. John Flores is in Albuera, Leyte. Next week, Lord willing, Rev. Holstege will preach for PCC.

      • The Children’s Catechism class will meet this Saturday at 9:00 am. Rev. Kleyn will teach the last lesson in the OT History for Juniors, lesson 25.

      • This week, Revs. Kleyn and Smit will travel to Negros Occidental for the monthly pastors’ classes to be held in Sipalay. May God grant them safe travels and bless the instruction they give there.

    • Maranatha PRC:

      • Our Missionary, Rev. D. Kleyn will lead our first service and our second serm, on.  After the second service, he will be teaching the Lesson: Article 1 and the following of the Belgic Confession.

      • Rev. L. Trinidad will be teaching the children catechism class.

Let us continue to lift up the needs of these busy pastors and missionaries in the Philippines. May the Lord of the harvest give them grace to be faithful and encouraged in all their labors.
