Contents[Show]
The following are special highlights of PRC and sister-church news for this Sunday, January 31, the fifth Lord's Day of this new year 2021.

Matthew 5 9

  • Today we again enter into our Lord's rest by faith and worship the glorious God of our salvation. In doing so we also hear the gospel of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, knowing that the preaching of Christ crucified and raised is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe (Rom.1:16). If you are visiting this website and are interested in the PRC, we invite you to join us at any of our services (morning and evening). For congregations and locations, visit this page.

The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy. ~ Psalm 99:1-3

  • Last Sunday Hudsonville PRC extended a call to Rev. J.Smidstra 1st PRC, Holland, MI). May the Lord guide him plainly as he considers this call.

  • The congregation of Kalamazoo PRC will vote today from her new trio from which to call a pastor: Revs. M.DeBoer (Edgerton, MN), E.Guichelaar (Randolph, WI), and J. Laning (Hull, IA). UPDATE: Rev. E. Guichelaar has received this call.

  • Classical appointments and pulpit supply for today in the vacant PRCs: Sem. J.Tan and Rev. D.Noorman in Byron Center PRC; Rev. G.Eriks in Cornerstone PRC; Prof. R.Cammenga and Rev. J.Mahtani in Hudsonville PRC; Prof. B.Huizinga and Rev. J.Holstege in Kalamazoo PRC; Prof. B.Gritters and Rev. W.Langerak in Providence PRC. We thank the Lord for this blessing of our church federation to help one another in this need.

Let us also tontinue to pray for all the needs of these vacant congregations, including Wingham PRC, which cannot receive pulpit supply from the U.S. at this time (pandemic travel restrictions). At present, because of the new COVID-19 lockdown orders in Ontario, the Wingham Consistory has suspended services until the congregation can gather again. Let's remember them in prayer with regard to this too.

  • For those who may still be limited to house worship, whether completely or partially, we invite you to visit the PR churches page and follow the links to the websites where the churches' livestream may be found. Or you may visit the selected audio sermon page and listen to one of your choice there.

SISTER-CHURCH/MISSIONS NEWS:

  • Covenant ERC, Singapore:
    • From the "Pastoral Voice" in her bulletin today: Beloved people of God, let us praise the LORD and give thanks unto the LORD for He is good and for His mercy endureth forever. We should indeed be very thankful and grateful to God that we could finally come together as a church to worship Him last Sunday. May God be greatly praised! We were not only able to worship as a whole congregation, we were also able to partake of the long-awaited Lord’s Supper sacrament last Sunday. Thanks be to God for feeding us spiritually with the body and blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Indeed, who can sufficiently utter the mighty acts of the LORD and who can show forth all His praise? As we look back, we cannot help but give grateful thanks to God for answering our earnest prayers.
    • And notice of a special class Prof. R. Dykstra taught: We are thankful to God that Prof. Dykstra could conduct two Church Order classes on Articles 4, 22 to 28, 31 and 37. These classes are part of the efforts by Session to help us better understand how the Reformed Church government, as exemplified in the Church Order, governs the nomination, approbation, election (voting) of officebearers, as well as the works of the officebearer.

This Week's Thought for Contemplation:

To speak the truth in love implies never bringing a false report about the neighbor and, if at all possible, concealing an evil report about the brother, even though the report is true. It implies that rather than spread the evil report about him, we visit him and speak with him face to face, in love, before God in Christ. When we speak the truth in love, the purpose is to defend the honor and good reputation of the brother and sister, rather than maliciously to besmear another’s name. In this there is a rich blessing for the church of Jesus Christ in the world, just as there is a curse in sinning against the ninth commandment. The curse means that under the wrath of God, the lie creates an atmosphere of suspicion, malice, hatred, envy, and distrust, in which one chokes rather than lives. The liar destroys his neighbor, himself, and possibly the church of Christ. If we speak the truth in love under the blessing of God, there is created an atmosphere of the confidence of love, of seeking one another’s wellbeing, in which it is a joy to live and in which one can breathe freely as a child of God in the Lord Jesus Christ. He who speaks the truth in love saves his neighbor, saves himself, and saves the church of Jesus Christ, for God dwells where the truth dwells. Thus as children of God we have a calling to put off the old man that moves in the sphere of lying and to put on the new man in Jesus Christ, that always speaks the truth in love. Then there will be joy and peace and light in the midst of Zion, and God will dwell with us.
