PRC and Sister-Church News Highlights for February 11, 2024

Contents[Show]

Psalm 125 2Today, February 11, is the sixth Lord's Day of this new year of our Lord 2024. Below you will find special highlights of PRC and sister-church news. It is our hope that these reports not only inform you but also give you opportunity to pray for the needs of these churches and mission fields throughout the world.

If you are new to this website and the PRCA, we invite you to join us in worship today or on any of the Sunday's of this year at one of our local congregations near you, or listen online.

They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever. For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity. Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts. As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel. ~ Psalm 125:1-5

Ephesians 4 3 3

SISTER-CHURCH/MISSION NEWS:

  • Covenant ERC, Singapore and her Kolkata, India mission work:
    • Pastors J. Tan and M. Wee are faithfully serving the CERC. Today both pastors preached. In today's "pastoral voice," Pastor Wee comments on the upcoming celebarion of the Chinese New Year (the year of the dragon): “Did you know that the Bible speaks of dragons?” Perhaps this could be an opening line we use to share the gospel with our unbelieving relatives and acquaintances, this Chinese New Year (CNY), in the year of the dragon. And then, perhaps we could point them to Revelation 12 and the account of the great red dragon, attempting to devour the man child, born of the woman.Revelation 12:3-6: “And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. [4] And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. [5] And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. [6] And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” And when giving the interpretation of the vision above (who doesn’t like a dragon story?) we have the opportunity to speak directly about the birth of Christ, His death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven. In other words, the gospel! People of God, let’s view this CNY as an opportunity. Not only to eat bak kwa and pineapple tarts and koropok, but to evangelise! To speak of the gospel, the good news of salvation, from sin, death, and the great red dragon."

This Week's Thought for Contemplation

 Who Is Jesus?

JESUS IS THE CRUCIFIED AND RISEN LORD

The Person who suffered and died was the Son of God, who suffered and died in the human nature. His real human body and soul were separated at death and His real human blood was shed when He died. Therefore, it is not true to say that Christians believe that God died, as if when Jesus died God was dead for three days and nobody was ruling the universe. Nor is it true to say that God was praying to Himself in the Garden. The Son of God in the flesh prayed to His Father in heaven.

The Son of God experienced in the real human nature the wrath of God against the sins of His people, those whom He represented before the Father. The death of Christ was unique. He died as a substitute to endure the punishment that His people deserved. And He did it willingly, because He loved His people.

Sin is so serious that only the death of the Son of God in our flesh could deliver us from it. Only Christ could voluntarily give up His life, and then have power to take it up again in the resurrection. Only Christ could live a perfect life of obedience and then give up that life to death, satisfying by His obedience the demands of God’s law. Only Christ, because He is God in the flesh, has the power to send His almighty Spirit into our hearts, and to bring us to faith in this Gospel, to uphold us by His grace, and to preserve us even unto the end. This is the Gospel, or the good news of salvation, which God commands you to believe.
