Dear brethren,

Greetings in our sovereign and gracious covenant Lord's name. I pray that you all will be in good health and peace of the mind for His mercy.

The month of March was quite special for us, because [for] the first time we are going to have a seminar without one of you come over and teach. So, preparing for that, I stopped writing Sunday Digest, and translating of KJV, [and] Thursday Bible classes. But I continued to edit the KLV Burmese, [and have] reached chapter 14. [I continue] preaching on the Heidelberg Catechism, and am up to Lord's Day 20.

At, seminar, as many as 38 people all over the country and from various denomination came. Two weeks seemed to be a very short time. The men learned a lot in these short two weeks. Especially, the second subject, which is called "Reformed Man." In that subject, I compared the present day so-called Christian viewing [of] their family, wife, children, work, money, modern things, and what the Bible taught us, especially Reformed view. They all are very much surprised and started to say, "We Burmese Christian never view [things] in those ways."

E. g., seeing our wives as our sisters in that Lord, when we get to heaven, we will not be husband and wife rather brother and sister in His covenant family. The same with our children, they are actually created by God Himself through parents, so the real owner is our Covenant God, not the parents. In this area also, when we get to heaven, we will not be parents and children, rather we all will be brothers and sisters in His big covenant family. So, [to] take care of them is covenant duty, so working for the family is not secular thing for the Reformed man but sacred thing, doing covenant duty for His glory; in other words, serving Him. In our Burmese cultural setting, doing religious means sacred thing, so have to forsake all earthly bounds and ties. The result is, feeding the children, working to earn a living to raise family is secular. But, I taught reverse with this popular view and set forth our covenant view.

To love our wives in our duty [is] not a shy-thing; we love our wives because the Bible demands it. I point out the texts, "Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband." (1 Corinthians 7:3 KJV) "Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered." (1 Peter 3:7 KJV) And many others to show the relationship between believing husband and wife is the picture of God's covenant of grace in Jesus Christ for His elect Church. They all love that very much, and they expressed they will not be the same when they return home.

All these things, I can teach only because you invited me and my wife to live among you and learned about your way of Reformed living; during three weeks, I opened my eyes as wide as I can to learn how you live as Reformed people, now I can teach that experiences to my people; thank you for that. And actually the success of this seminar is the fruit of your labors.

[in the] morning, Belgic Confession, I explained all the words are written in blood of Reformed believers, so that we must study with respect. And, to [be] call[ed] Reformed [we] must have confession; without confession, cannot be called Reformed church.

Weather is extremely hot; last year, only the month of May, hot as now. This year is special, but for His mercy, we did not fell sick during the seminar. And, after the seminar, Rakhine state churches demanded me to pay official visit, as well as, Nagah Land also asked me to come over to their place. I promised them, if the Lord wills, I will come, at least two weeks and teach in their places.

We are so much thankful for all the Face-time and Whatsapp videos calls during all the two week seminar, every morning, that gave us real encouragement. Thank you very much for supporting my ministry, without your help I cannot do all the things that I do for His people.

Please continue to pray for us, so that the Reformed truth that we hold dear as PR churches will be through out generations. In my congregational prayer, I continue to pray, always for you, so that you also will have covenant strength to go on in the precious truth that you now have with you many, many generations to come.

CONGREGATIONAL NEWS:

• On April 29 the congregation of Heritage PRC (Sioux Falls, SD) voted to extend a call to Candidate J. Langerak. TODAY Heritage PRC announced his acceptance of this call. We rejoice with this brother in God's confirmation of His sovereign summons to the ministry of the Word in our churches and we rejoice with Heritage in God's provision of another pastor to serve her.
  
  
• Having accepted the call to Calvary PRC (Hull, IA) Rev. A. Brummel will preach his farewell in Heritage PRC today during the second service. Calvary PRC will be moving the Brummel family on Monday, May 14, to Hull, IA.  His installation as pastor of Calvary PRC is planned for May 20 during the PM service, which will be conducted by Rev. J. Laning, Calvary PRC’s moderator. 
  
  
• The Western Young People's Retreat: The Young People from Spokane and Lynden are planning another retreat for 2018 for ages 14-20. The theme of the retreat will be "Communion with God” from Psalm 63. The dates are July 2-5 at Camp Sanders in Tensed, ID, about an hour Southeast of Spokane. DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

• CLASSIS EAST met this past Wednesday, May 9, at Faith PRC. The following is the brief summary provided for the PRC bulletins for this Sunday. A more complete stated clerk's report will be provided later.
  
  

Classis East met in regular session this past Wednesday. The emeritation request of Rev. K. Koole was approved. Two appeals and two protest were not treated because Classis judged that they were not finished in the consistory. Four protests directly pertaining to the decisions of January / February Classis meeting were put into the hands of a committee that will bring its recommendation to a continuation meeting of Classis to be held at Faith PRC on July 18, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. Two protest were upheld that rescinded the decision of the January 2018 meeting of Classis that limited the distribution of agendas of Classical meetings to current council members. The next regular scheduled meeting of Classis will be held September 12, 2018 at Grace PRC, Standale Michigan.

• Synod 2018 announcement: Synod 2017 appointed Byron Center PRC the calling church for the 2018 Synod. Synod will convene, D.V., on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 8:00 a.m., in the gymnasium of Adams Christian School (please note the change of venue from the announcement in the May 1 Standard Bearer). The Pre-synodical Service will be held on Monday evening, June 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Byron Center PRC (please note that the pre-synodical service and the meetings of synod will be held in different venues).   • The seminary recently had some grade-school visitors, from Hope PRCS in Walker, MI (April 24) and from Heritage CS in Hudsonville (May 3).
    
    
  • The seminary has now completed its fifteen weeks of regular classes in the second semester, with a week of final exams scheduled for this week. Continue to pray for faculty and students that they might finish the year well.
    
    
  • The upcoming internships of Seminarians Matt Kortus and Jacob Maatman have been confirmed. Sem. Kortus will be interning at Trinity PRC under Rev. N. Decker and his Council and Sem. Maatman will intern at Hudsonville PRC under Rev. G. Eriks and his Council. The internship program runs from July 1 to December 31.

• The PRC congregations will be remembering and reflecting on the glorious ascension of our Savior Jesus Christ with a special worship service on Ascension Day 2018, this Thursday, May 10. • From this Sunday's bulletins of the Provident Christian Church in Marikina, the Philippines and the Maranatha PRC in Valenzuela we find the following notes concerning their pastors as well as concerning our missionaries and their labors today and in this coming week:
  • Provident CC: 

    • Rev. Holstege will preach in the first service today and Rev. Smit in the second. Rev. Holstege will teach the Church Order, Articles 72ff after the first service. The second service today will commemorate the ascension of Christ.

    • The Wednesday night Bible study will begin again, Lord willing, on May 23. Rev. Kleyn will lead us for a couple months.

    • The Holsteges will depart for their six-week furlough in the U.S. on June 11, Lord willing.

  • Maranatha PRC:

    • Our Pastor, Rev. L. Trinidad will lead our first service and our second service. After the second service, he will be teaching the the Book of Revelation Lesson # 50.
      
      

    • Reminder next Lord’s Day is our church 35th Anniversary celebration and Rev. Richard Smit will lead the both services and will give the Anniversary message. Our celebration is “POTLUCK.”

Let us continue to lift up the needs of these busy pastors and missionaries in the Philippines. May the Lord of the harvest give them grace to be faithful and encouraged in all their labors.

On this seventeenth Lord's Day of 2018, April 29, we note the following news and information concerning PRC congregations, the Seminary, mission fields, and sister churches.

CONGREGATIONAL NEWS:

• On Sunday April 15 Rev. A. Brummel (Heritage PRC, Sioux Falls, SD) announced his acceptance of the call from Calvary PRC (Hull, IA, received on March 29). From Heritage's bulletin we learn more details about this transition and about her new trio from which to call a new pastor:

  • "Rev. Brummel plans to preach his farewell in Heritage PRC on May 13.  His family plans to move to Hull that following week with a view to being installed in Calvary PRC on May 20, Lord willing.

  • Heritage PRC announces a trio of Rev. E. Guichelaar (Randolph, WI), Rev. S. Key (Loveland, CO), and Candidate Jonathan Langerak.  A congregational meeting will be held after the second worship service on April 29 to call a pastor."

  • *UPDATE: Heritage PRC voted to call Cand. J. Langerak. We rejoice with this brother in God's confirmation of His sovereign summons to the ministry of the Word in our churches.
    
    

• Grandville PRC announced recently that her pastor, Rev. Ken Koole, will be seeking emeritation in the coming months at Classis East and Synod 2018.
  
  
• Special note from Georgetown PRC: "The Council and the Congregation express our thanks to the Committee and speakers who organized and participated in Young Men’s Conference ("Run, Fight, Lead!") on Saturday morning [April 28]. DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

• Synod 2018 announcement: Call to Synod: Synod 2017 appointed Byron Center PRC the calling church for the 2018 Synod. Synod will convene, D.V., on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 8:00 a.m., in the gymnasium of Adams Christian School (please note the change of venue from the announcement in the May 1 Standard Bearer). The Pre-synodical Service will be held on Monday evening, June 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Byron Center PRC (please note that the pre-synodical service and the meetings of synod will be held in different venues). • From the PRC Seminary comes this April news:
  • The seminary has now completed thirteen weeks of classes, with two left in this second semester, plus a week of exams. Continue to pray for faculty and students that they might finish the year well.
  • The second round of practice has now been completed for the sophomore and junior students.
  • The upcoming internships of Seminarians Matt Kortus and Jacob Maatman have been confirmed. Sem. Kortus will be interning at Trinity PRC under Rev. N. Decker and his Council and Sem. Maatman will intern at Hudsonville PRC under Rev. G. Eriks and his Council. The internship program runs from July 1 to December 31.

SISTER-CHURCH NEWS

• Concerning our sister church in Singapore, Covenant ERC, we note the following:
  
  • The CERC has a delegation in India at present, part of the supervision of her mission labor there with Rev. E. Singh. Today's bulletin contains this note: "We thank God for the safe journey of our elders to Kolkata past Tuesday. They are enjoying the fellowship of the saints there in a very different culture. Pray for them and Rev. Singh as they continue the interviews today for baptism and confession of faith. Perhaps after the intensive rounds of interviews over 2 days, the elders would pick up a few theological terms in Bengali."
  • Rev. A. den Hartog and his wife Sherry continue to serve the CERC until at least June of this year. Read the "Pastor's Voice" part of her bulletin to learn more.

  • Due to housing limitations in Iowa, the Iowa convention steering committee has asked that the people coming from Michigan be bussed directly to the camp on Monday.  Conventioneers will not be allowed to drive directly to the camp, but must register for a bus. Bussing is lined up to leave from the Grand Rapids area Monday morning around midnight in order to get to the camp in time for registration.  Cost to ride the bus is around $100. Young Men's Conference (High School / College), "Run, Fight, Lead!" is THIS Saturday, April 28, from 8-12:30, at Georgetown PRC.

Run, Fight, Lead! is a Christian Young Men's Conference for high school and college age young men. The goal of the conference is to equip and encourage Christian young men to grow in Biblical manhood.

The topics will follow the theme of Run, Fight, Lead! Running from lust and pornography and instead running toward biblical manhood and Godly dating and marriage. Fighting against, gossip, bullying and hate while fighting for truth, peace and love. Leading Christian brothers out of sinful rebellion and leading them in the way of holy obedience.

The conference speakers and their topics will be:
