THE FAITHFUL WITNESS
By Rev Carl Haak (Reformed Witness Hour)

"When Christ instructed the church to go and to make disciples of all nations, He gave that great commission to the entire church, so that every member must face this calling as a solemn duty before God.  Pastors and missionaries must make disciples by preaching and by baptism.  And members of the church are also involved in making disciples by their witnessing.  This is a privilege and a calling that is held before us in the Scriptures."

What does being a faithful witness entail? What motivates us to be faithful witnesses? What are the things that we, as faithful witnesses, cannot do? And finally, what are the tools that faithful witnesses may employ in their witnessing?

As one interested in your walk as a faithful witness, click to read more and find out the answers to these questions in this 4-part series!

Knowing God in the Last Days
by Mark Hoeksema

From the RFPA website:

"Knowing God in the Last Days is an explanation of the general epistle of Peter to the early New Testament church. The primary theme of the letter is the knowledge of God, a concept that occurs many times and in various contexts throughout the book. This short epistle contains a wealth of instruction for the church today.

The secondary theme of 2 Peter is the application of the knowledge of God to the last days in which we live. Especially in his third chapter, Peter reveals to the church the knowledge of God as it relates to the end times.

Based on exegesis of the Greek text, this commentary gives clarity of explanation to God’s people regarding necessary and important aspects of today’s Christian life. May all who read be edified."

CK/CKS Outing
Our latest CKCS youth outing took on a slightly different form as we gathered at Yang Zhi's place for a prayer meeting. We were joined, for the first time, by Charis Tan who will be turning 13 next year. This was followed by a refreshing game of Aqua Captain's Ball. We then had pizza and fried rice at Aunty Jean's who also fed us with instruction concerning dating and marrying in the Lord.

THREE CUPS
By Rev Carl Haak (Reformed Witness Hour)

"Of all the truths of the sufferings of Jesus Christ there are none so dear as the truth that He suffered voluntarily. He was not dragged to the cross against His will. He did not endure His suffering as a passive victim, reluctantly, with cold resignation. But He went to the cross and endured His suffering willingly, zealously, and voluntarily...

Scripture presents this truth to us in a figure of speech, in the figure of a cup which He willingly drank. All the sufferings necessary to make full payment for our sins were poured into a cup which the Father presented to His Son, the Son of God, who knew what was in that cup and who loved us, drank the cup, and then dashed the empty cup on the ground before the cross."

CERC 30th Anniversary
On 23rd Sep, CERC celebrated her 30th anniversary. There was an exhortation based on our church theme, "Be Ye Holy", various song presentations as well as greetings from friends in sister churches, followed by cake-cutting and fellowship over dinner. We are thankful to the Lord for His preserving Hand over us all these years. May He keep CERC as a faithful church, shining for Him in this region of the world.

Ps 90:1-2

CK/CKS Outing
In our recent CKCKS outing, the youths had a time of sports and games at Bishan Park, during which some of us were doubled over in laughter. We were joined by two visitors from Washington, Sarah Kleyn and Lisa Heystek.
For the first game, we had to try and a insert a small tube through the mouth of a bottle while it dangled from a string tied to our waists.
The second game was an animal relay in which participants had to transport a ball to and fro while moving like a duck, kangaroo or crab.

RESOLVING CONFLICTS IN MARRIAGE
By Rev Wilbur Bruinsma

"Conflict in marriage is inevitable.  It is so because in marriage two sinners are bound together by God.  None of us is free of sin.  And sin is what gives rise to conflict in marriage.  There are disagreements that arise between a husband and a wife.  In fact, it is a wonder that God, almost miraculously, takes two incompatible sinners and makes them one flesh, and then, by His grace, causes them to live together in that peace and that joy which is necessary for marriage."

In a two-part series aired over the Reformed Witness Hour radio broadcast, Rev Bruinsma talks about one of the main causes of conflict in marriage - pride - as well as practices that should be found in every marriage: giving, communication, reading the Word of God together and repentance.

Less Than The Least
by Cornelius Hanko

From the RFPA website:

"Son of Dutch immigrants to America, Rev. Hanko served six pastorates in five states, most notably in First Protestant Reformed Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan (1948–1964), along with Rev. Herman Hoeksema and Rev. Hubert De Wolf. Rev. Hanko poignantly describes the grief caused in the PRC by De Wolf’s heresy and schism (1953).

More than this, Less Than the Least follows Rev. Hanko from his childhood, school days, and seminary training, all the way to his retirement (1977) and beyond.

This delightful book comes complete with photos and appendices."
