Philippines Mission Newsletter - August 2015 - Ten Prayer Items

Delegation 2015 1Our missionary in the Philippines, along with the Foreign Mission Committee and the calling church, Doon PRC Council, have just published their latest newsletter of this year.

The August 2015 issue, penned by Elder Jim Regnerus and his wife Brenda (Doon PRC), part of the recent delegation to the field along with Rev.A. Brummel and his wife, gives a unique perspective on this field of labor with all its diversity. Specifically, he gives ten prayer items for us to commit to. Shall we read them and commit to that?

Let's remember to pray for the Kleyns as they serve the Lord and His people in distant lands - and by themselves at this point. May they daily experience the unfailing presence of their Lord and the faithful support of their fellow-saints.

You will find the full newsletter below in image form but the August newsletter is also attached here in pdf form. You may also visit the Kleyn's blog to see a more personal side to the life and work in this foreign land.

Mission Visits This Week - Doon PRC/FMC Visit to the Philippines; CERCS Visit to India

Gospel to all nationsDoon PRC, the calling church for the PRC mission endeavors in the Philippines, along with the Foreign Mission Committee, are sending a delegation to the field this week for their annual visit. This is how it was reported in one of our bulletins:

Rev. A.Brummel (Heritage PRC and FMC member) and Elder Jim Regnerus (Doon PRC), with their wives, plan to leave Wednesday, June 24 for the Philippines and return on Thursday, July 9. This will serve as the yearly FMC/Doon delegation, along with Rev. Brummel, providing teaching and preaching assistance for Rev. Kleyn.

From the bullletin of the Covenant Evangelical Reformed Church in Singapore (a sister church of the PRC) we learn of another visit to Kalkata, India, and of God's goodness in providing a place for Pastor Emmanuel and the saints there to conduct their activities.

The delegation of Elder Leong and Pastor Lanning leaves this week for Kolkata, and will be gone from Thursday, 25 June through Wednesday, 1 July. The delegation will be focusing entirely on the work in Kolkata this time, and the main tasks of the delegation will be to discuss the developments since our last visit, and to organize the work between Singapore and Kolkata. The delegation will also join the Fellowship for worship this coming Sunday. As we have sought your prayers before, so we seek them again. Pray for Emmanuel, the saints in Kolkata, and the delegation, that God would gather His church in this part of India, and that He would use us as His unworthy instruments in saving His beloved people.

The Lord has also been good to the saints in Kolkata. Emmanuel recently found a house to rent that can be used for all of the activities of the Fellowship’s activities. It can accommodate worship on Sunday, Bible studies during the week, and any other activities of the group. The house is near public transportation hubs, making it much more accessible than their current facilities. The house is also owned by a Christian, which means the Fellowship will not have to worry about interference with their activities. The house is currently being prepared for use by the Fellowship in Kolkata, and may even be ready for worship by today.

Let us be in prayer for these parties as they travel and as they carry out the missions of their visits.

Philippines Mission Update: Seminary Videos Used for 7M Classes

7M Catechetics class 2015 1

This past week Missionary-pastors D. Kleyn and R.Smit once again held their 7M pastors' training classes in the Metro Manila area. Rev. Smit is teaching a class in OT exegesis and Rev.Kleyn began a class in catechetics (how to teach catechism to the youth of the church).

What made this time unique is that for the first time the missionaries used videos of one of our own Seminary courses - videos that had been made with this very purpose in mind. Rev.Kleyn used and will be using videos of Prof.B.Gritters course on Catechetics taught just last Fall (2014) in our Seminary. Some thirty lectures were saved on a flash drive and sent to our missionaries in the Philippines through Prof. (emeritus) D.Engelsma who was just there for a special conference.

This was exciting for both the missionaries and for the faculty here, as we have been taping other classes with this in mind (Dogmatics, church history, church polity, etc.). Both missionaries testified to the great value of this for themselves and for the pastors being trained there. One of them made this comment by way of email as a follow-up:

I've looked forward to what happened on Tuesday for a long time: having lectures of a complete course from our Seminary courses used in a pastor's training setting, like 7M. It was indeed a thrill to witness what I regard as no little accomplishment and a significant cooperation between our seminary and our mission work in the Philippines, addressing a concrete need.

We thank the Lord that this modern technology can be used in this way. May we continue to pray for God's blessing on this kind of cooperation between our Seminary and our mission labors in distant lands.

Rev.Kleyn also sent along a couple of pictures of the class, for which we thank him.

Kleyns Return Safely to the Philippines After Furlough

DKleyn - Spokane Presentation - July 2014After a six-week furlough in the United States missionary-pastor Daniel Kleyn and his wife Sharon returned home to their place of labor in the Philippines this past Thursday (July 17, 2014).

On their latest blog post they reported on the last parts of their furlough, including a trip to the West where they gave presentations in First PRC, Edmonton, AB, Lynden PRC, WA, and Covenant of Grace PRC in Spokane, WA (see picture here).

And they included this note at the end after they had arrived back in the Philippines:

"We arrived home again late Thursday night, July 17.  All thanks to God for prospering our journey and for blessing the work.  We were greatly encouraged and refreshed through the furlough, and are now glad to be home again to take up our work here in the Philippines."

They report that the effects of the latest strong typhoon, which went through the Philippines just south of Manila this past Wednesday, brought down trees and caused flooding. The missionaries homes did not experience the flooding, but the lower level of Rev. and Mrs. Ibe’s home did.

We pray that they and the Smits may experience God’s continued care and blessings in their labors in that part of God's kingdom and church.

Let us also remember to pray for Rev.S.Key (Loveland, CO) as he considers the call to serve as missionary in the Philippines to replace Rev.R.Smit.

Other Philippines Mission News: Rev.D.Kleyn on Furlough

The following bulletins carried the latest news on the upcoming furlough of Missionary-pastor Daniel Kleyn and his wife Sharon. To follow their activities while on furlough, visit the Kleyn's blog!

DanielSharonK-2013

From the Provident Christian Church Bulletin (Marikina, the Philippines):

Rev. D. Kleyn, a missionary in the Philippines of the Protestant Reformed Churches in America, will be teaching and preaching for us today, the Lord willing.

The Kleyns will be leaving tomorrow (June 2) for a 6 week furlough in north America, God willing. During the furlough, the Kleyns will have opportunity for vacation time with their families. Also, Rev. Kleyn will meet with the consistory of Doon PRC (his calling and sending church), and the Foreign Mission Committee. He also plans to attend the PRCA synod, preach in some of the churches, and give presentations regarding the mission work that Rev. Smit and he are doing in the Philippines. The Kleyns plan to return to the Philippines on July 17.

While Rev. Kleyn is gone, Rev. R. Smit has agreed to preach and teach for us here in PCC for two Sundays – on June 29 and July 6. He has also agreed to lead most of our Thursday evening Bible study and doctrine classes, starting on June 5, God willing.

And from the June 1, 2014 Doon PRC bulletin (the calling church):

Rev. and Sharon Kleyn plan to begin their furlough this week. There are many purposes to the furlough, one of which is to give the missionary and his wife a time of refreshment and encouragement in the work. In thanksgiving for the opportunity we have as the calling church, let’s especially use the Kleyns’ time in our midst to fellowship with and encourage them. The Kleyns will initially fly to Michigan, and then travel to Iowa arriving in Doon on Thursday. They will be lodging in the parsonage.  Rev. and Sharon plan to attend the church picnic with us on Saturday, and Rev. Kleyn will be preaching for us on Sunday. The following Wednesday they will be back in Michigan so that Rev. Kleyn can be present when the Philippine mission field is the object of Synod’s attention.

Rev.D.Kleyn will be giving at least three main presentations on the mission work in the Philippines while he is on furlough in the U.S. These are noted below. Take an interest in the work and be sure to attend one of these interesting presentations.

From Calvary PRC bulletin (Hull, IA): Rev. D. Kleyn plans to give a presentation on the mission work in the Philippines on Sunday evening, June 8, at 8:00 p.m. in Calvary PRC in Hull.  All are welcome to attend.  Hope to see you there.
