Mission Visits This Week - Doon PRC/FMC Visit to the Philippines; CERCS Visit to India

Gospel to all nationsDoon PRC, the calling church for the PRC mission endeavors in the Philippines, along with the Foreign Mission Committee, are sending a delegation to the field this week for their annual visit. This is how it was reported in one of our bulletins:

Rev. A.Brummel (Heritage PRC and FMC member) and Elder Jim Regnerus (Doon PRC), with their wives, plan to leave Wednesday, June 24 for the Philippines and return on Thursday, July 9. This will serve as the yearly FMC/Doon delegation, along with Rev. Brummel, providing teaching and preaching assistance for Rev. Kleyn.

From the bullletin of the Covenant Evangelical Reformed Church in Singapore (a sister church of the PRC) we learn of another visit to Kalkata, India, and of God's goodness in providing a place for Pastor Emmanuel and the saints there to conduct their activities.

The delegation of Elder Leong and Pastor Lanning leaves this week for Kolkata, and will be gone from Thursday, 25 June through Wednesday, 1 July. The delegation will be focusing entirely on the work in Kolkata this time, and the main tasks of the delegation will be to discuss the developments since our last visit, and to organize the work between Singapore and Kolkata. The delegation will also join the Fellowship for worship this coming Sunday. As we have sought your prayers before, so we seek them again. Pray for Emmanuel, the saints in Kolkata, and the delegation, that God would gather His church in this part of India, and that He would use us as His unworthy instruments in saving His beloved people.

The Lord has also been good to the saints in Kolkata. Emmanuel recently found a house to rent that can be used for all of the activities of the Fellowship’s activities. It can accommodate worship on Sunday, Bible studies during the week, and any other activities of the group. The house is near public transportation hubs, making it much more accessible than their current facilities. The house is also owned by a Christian, which means the Fellowship will not have to worry about interference with their activities. The house is currently being prepared for use by the Fellowship in Kolkata, and may even be ready for worship by today.

Let us be in prayer for these parties as they travel and as they carry out the missions of their visits.

Classis of the PRC in the Philippines - Meeting of June 12, 2015

Classis of PRCP 12

Elder Sonny Umali (stated clerk), Elder Eric Mescallado, Rev. Kleyn, Rev. V.Ibe, Rev. J.Flores, Elder Reden Zuniega, Deacon Eric Castano, Deacon Buboy Prosia

From our missionary in the Philippines comes this report on the recent Classis meeting of the PRC in the Philippines. We thank him for this update and for the pictures.

The Classis of the PRC in the Philippines met on Friday, June 12, 2015. The meeting was held in the PRC in Bulacan. This was the 5th meeting since the denomination's formation in 2014. Rev. Flores led in opening devotions, and then Rev. Ibe chaired the meeting.

The business of Classis was mostly routine (reports of standing committees, church visitors, clerk, treasurer, etc.) and Classis was able to finish its work by noon.

The main actions were that Classis (1) adopted a constitution for Emeritus work, (2) adopted a constitution for Translation work, and (3) mandated its standing committee which is responsible, among other things, for contact with other churches to correspond with the Contact Committee of the PRCA with a view to establishing a sister church relationship. It is encouraging to know of the PRCP's desire to work toward such a relationship. We trust the standing committee is able to meet sometime in the near future to get that ball rolling.

The next meeting of the Classis is scheduled for Saturday, October 31 in the Berean PRC.

PRC Classis Meeting in the Philippines - Feb.25, 2015 - Update: Report & Pics

Berean PRC New worship place 2014From the February 22, 2015 bulletin of the Provident Christian Church (Marikina, the Philippines), where missionary-pastor D.Kleyn preached this past Sunday, we learn the following:

The regular Classis Meeting of the Protestant Reformed Churches in the Philippines (which meets 3 times a year) is scheduled for this week Wednesday, February 25, beginning at 9:00 a.m., in the church building of the Berean PRC in Greenheights Subdivision, Mayamot, Antipolo. All are welcome to attend and observe the meeting.

Let's be sure to pray for the delegates as they conduct the business of the churches together in that part of the world.

Also, this note was placed in the same bulletin:

Next Sunday, Lord willing, Rev. R. Smit will be preaching for us. That will be his and his family’s last Sunday with us here in PCC.

Let's also be in prayer for the Smits as they conclude their life and labors in the Philippines and prepare to come to First PRC, Grand Rapids, MI where Rev.Smit recently accepted a call to serve as pastor.

Update: Rev.D.Kleyn sent this summary of the meeting and a few pictures, which we now add here.

The meeting was held yesterday (February 25) in the church building of the Berean PRC in Mayamot, Antipolo. Rev.D.Kleyn (who served as president of the previous classis) opened the meeting by leading the classis in devotions and a meditation on Psalm 87:2. Then Rev. Flores, by rotation, chaired the meeting of Classis.

PRCP Classis Feb 2015 1

In addition to receiving reports from the clerk and treasurer and approving their work, the Classis received and treated reports from its two standing committees. The main content of these reports was that each committee presented constitutions to classis for its respective duties - i.e., constitutions for Contact Committee, Finance Committee, Seminary Student Training, etc.

The Classis also treated and approved the procedure that is to be used when churches request membership in the PRCP. The classis then gave its approval for one of the standing committees to implement this procedure in treating the request of Maranatha PRC in Valenzuela to join the federation.

The classis began at 9:00 am and finished at approximately 1:00 pm.

This was the last classis meeting that Rev.R.Smit will attend, and he bade farewell to the classis and led in the closing prayer. As many of the men of Classis mentioned, he will certainly be missed.

RSmit bids farewell 2 classis Feb 2015

The next classis meeting is scheduled for June 12, the Lord willing, and will be hosted by the PRC in Bulacan.

Philippines Mission Update: Seminary Videos Used for 7M Classes

7M Catechetics class 2015 1

This past week Missionary-pastors D. Kleyn and R.Smit once again held their 7M pastors' training classes in the Metro Manila area. Rev. Smit is teaching a class in OT exegesis and Rev.Kleyn began a class in catechetics (how to teach catechism to the youth of the church).

What made this time unique is that for the first time the missionaries used videos of one of our own Seminary courses - videos that had been made with this very purpose in mind. Rev.Kleyn used and will be using videos of Prof.B.Gritters course on Catechetics taught just last Fall (2014) in our Seminary. Some thirty lectures were saved on a flash drive and sent to our missionaries in the Philippines through Prof. (emeritus) D.Engelsma who was just there for a special conference.

This was exciting for both the missionaries and for the faculty here, as we have been taping other classes with this in mind (Dogmatics, church history, church polity, etc.). Both missionaries testified to the great value of this for themselves and for the pastors being trained there. One of them made this comment by way of email as a follow-up:

I've looked forward to what happened on Tuesday for a long time: having lectures of a complete course from our Seminary courses used in a pastor's training setting, like 7M. It was indeed a thrill to witness what I regard as no little accomplishment and a significant cooperation between our seminary and our mission work in the Philippines, addressing a concrete need.

We thank the Lord that this modern technology can be used in this way. May we continue to pray for God's blessing on this kind of cooperation between our Seminary and our mission labors in distant lands.

Rev.Kleyn also sent along a couple of pictures of the class, for which we thank him.

Further update: On January 9, 2015 Rev.D.Kleyn did a special post on the book selling part of the conference - exciting news! Here is a short note from that post along with a picture of Prof.D.Engelsma signing books:

In all we sold 270 books, more than double last year's sales! Thanks to the congregations of the PRC for the collections that make the sale and purchase of these books affordable!
I also promised an explanation of why Prof. Engelsma, the featured speaker at the conference, was not on the group picture. The reason was that many people wanted their books autographed by the author. :-)

December 2014 Newsletter from the Philippines Mission

Our missionaries in the Philippines, along with the Foreign Mission Committee and the calling church, Doon PRC Council, have just published their fourth newsletter of this year

Let's remember to pray for the Smits and Kleyns - and all our missionaries and their families - as they serve the Lord and His people in distant lands. May they experience the nearness of their Savior and the support of their fellow-saints in this time of year.

Classis Meeting of the PRC in the Philippines - Updated!

It was back in April of this year that the new federation of Protestant Reformed Churches in the Philippines was formed. The two congregations of Berean PRC (Manila) and First Reformed Church (Bulacan) committed to form a new denomination, agreeing in faith and practice on the basis of the Word of God, the Reformed creeds, and Church Order of Dordt.

PRC Classis-Oct31-2014

On October 31, Reformation Day, the churches held their third Classis meeting to conduct mutual church business. May God continue to bless this union, the meeting tomorrow, and the labors they perform together on behalf of the King of the church, Jesus Christ.

UPDATE: The picture above is from the Oct.31 meeting. You will also find a full report of this Classis meeting on the Philippines Mission Work blog.

*The Kleyns have also posted a feature on this Classis meeting on their blog, including many more pictures.

In other Philippine mission news, Missionary-pastor D.Kleyn recently reported on his and Rev.Smit's monthly trip to Bacolod and Sipalay. For more on this, visit the link on the Kleyn's blog. And be sure to sign up to receive the regular updates. Here is one picture from that post, as Rev.Kleyn prepares to lead the worship service and a regular member helps write the Psalter numbers on the board.
