April 1 – LD 13, Day 7: A Glorious Confession

I Corinthians 12:3 “Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.”

We confess Jesus Christ to be our Lord because of the wonder of God’s work in us. By the Holy Spirit, God takes hold of our sinful, rebellious natures which would turn our backs on God altogether, and transforms them. We are given ears to hear and tongues to confess wonders that we would never have confessed on our own.

There are those who will call Him Lord merely in fear. At the final judgment, all men will be forced to bow before Him in adoration and praise, confessing that He alone is Lord of all. Some will call Him Lord with their mouths, but not their hearts. Those, Jesus will reject as never having known them. They merely called Him by name, but never from the heart, nor with their lives. Just saying “Lord, Lord” does not do us any good if we refuse to walk according to the will of His Father who is in heaven.

By word and by deed we submit to Him. We willingly and joyfully confess Jesus as our Lord and seek to live as His faithful servants, looking forward to the day when our faithfulness will be as that of the angels. And, then we will hear too those glorious words- “…thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord!” (Matthew 25:23b)
