Dear Congregation,

On June 13, 2007 the sale of the church and parsonage to Power and Light Evangelistic Church was completed. This took many months of hard work by various men and committees over the past year, and for this work we are thankful. We especially want to thank Gil Van Baren and our Attorney James Lanting for the many hours of labor in selling the property.

Even before the sale was completed, our church building committee began to investigate possible places where we could worship, until we are able to move into our own church building again. Many area churches, schools, and social centers were investigated. Some of the problems the committee faced were conflicts of worship service times, size of meeting rooms, available parking, and cost of rental.

At a special Council meeting this past Wednesday, the Council adopted the following decisions.

  1. That we rent the Serbian Hall, located at 186th and Stoney Island, in Lansing Illinois. This location has many advantages. They will set up the room and clean up. We can have space for a nursery. We can have space for Council to meet before services. Rental will be approximately $3000. per month and we are not obligated to any lengthy term of rental.
  2. Since the Serbian Hall is available, we plan to hold our last worship services on September 2, 2007 in our church building.  The worship services on September 9, 2007 will be in the Serbian Hall at our normal worship times.
  3. That our secretarial committee set up an office in our secretary’s home.  The committee will be relocating the secretary’s desk and files, computer, copier, duplicator and phone line to the home of Henry and Judy Bleyenburg in the coming months.

The building committee has requested Cornerstone PRC, Peace PRC, and our grade school and high school for the use of their facilities in helping out for our  weekly meetings and other needs.  These details still need to be completed.

The Council approved setting up a post office box in South Holland for mailings to our church.  The mailing address for our church will be:  Protestant Reformed Church, P.O. Box 478, South Holland, IL  60473.

The Council is aware that this is a big change on our normal routine for worship. We ask for your prayers as we must continue to make decisions on many of the other aspects involved in the relocation of a congregation to new facilities. Also we ask for your patience and understanding as we implement the changes that are necessary.

In Christ’s service,

Gysbert Van Baren, Clerk

The Council of the Protestant Reformed Church of South Holland
