The day that man fell into sin and became a citizen of Satan's kingdom of darkness, God assured us of being lifted up and out of the devil's kingdom to become citizens in the Kingdom of Light. The apostle John gives us further revelation of that truth when he wrote, "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith" ( I John 5:4 ).
Although today the human race is divided into different nations, tongues, and tribes, from a spiritual point of view there are only two kinds of people. One kind Scripture calls the world, and the other kind has the name of church.
How do we know whether we belong to the world or to the church? Well, as John points out, the possession of faith reveals membership in the Kingdom of Light, and that we are no longer citizens in the Kingdom of Darkness.
As members of that Kingdom of Light we have the victory over the Kingdom of Darkness whose king, Satan, goes against us. Remember that in Genesis 3:15 , "the mother promise," God told us that there would, from a spiritual point of view, be only two peoples, the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent; and that there would be fierce enmity between them.
We become citizens of the Kingdom of Light by a rebirth. And we have undeniable evidence of belonging to it. The works which we perform do not earn it, or give it to us. But faith, as God's gift to us, gives us the assurance, the sign, that we do belong to the Kingdom of Light. Faith is the spiritual bond whereby God unites us to Christ, the King of that Kingdom of Light.
All the blessings of salvation in that kingdom are God's gift of grace to us. And we owe Him everlasting thanks for making this change.
Do you daily thank Him for that wonderful change?
