A Blessed Confidence

All men know one thing that lies before them. The unbelievers will not agree that the wages of sin is death; but all men know that death lies ahead for them. The child of God, however, believes this wonderful truth that our God gives us through Paul in Philippians 1:6 . There we read, "Being confident of this very thing that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

There are then two good things which we may be sure will happen. Christ will be taking more steps toward His return to glorify His church. And God will continue in us the good work which He began after causing us to be born again, and be glorified as His people.

Sickness and death, earthquakes and violent storms, economic depressions and financial hardships may come. But none of this will deny or prevent what Paul wrote. Instead, through all this God is preparing the way for Christ's return, and preparing us for entrance into and enjoyment of a most blessed life with Christ in the new Jerusalem, with body and soul.

Do not then let what happens make you think that God is failing to keep His promises. Instead be confident that He is working all things together for your good. He will continue His good work until it is finished, and we with body and soul get what He promised us.

The crucifixion of Christ made it look as though all was wrong. But there was nothing wrong. All went as planned to earn our salvation. Remember what Paul wrote in Romans 8:28 : "All things work together for good to those that love God." Get that! All things work together for our good.

Have therefore no doubt, no matter what happens in the day that lies ahead. All is well, and all serves the purpose of Christ's return and of our dwelling with Him in everlasting glory.

Quote for Reflection:

“Our Lord is doing the best thing for His Kingdom in going away. It was in the highest degree expedient that He should go, and that we should each one receive the Spirit. There is a blessed unity between Christ the King and the commonest soldier in the ranks. He has not taken His heart from us, nor His care from us, nor His interest from us: He is bound up heart and soul with His people, and their holy warfare, and this is the evidence of it, 'Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.'"  (Rev. 22:12)  -Charles H. Spurgeon
