Putting on the Whole Armor of God

The day that the devil brought man the lie that by sinning against God, man would become a god, the one and only God came and brought the wonderful covenant promise of salvation as His gift. Man fell into sin that day, but that same day God brought the truth that, even though the whole human race had now fallen into sin, He had chosen some of that race to be His covenant seed. One part would be called the seed of the serpent, which means that they would be children of the devil. The other part would be His children, and were called the seed of the woman, which in Galatians 3:16 refers to Christ. He is the Seed of the woman presented in Genesis 3:15.

In this warfare between Satan and his seed, and Christ and His seed, the comforting truth is that we have an armor that protects us. We read in Ephesians 6:13 , "Therefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand."

The seed of the woman is the true church. That church contends with the seed of the serpent that is constantly trying to destroy the faith in Christ which God in His grace gives us. But even though they may kill us physically, we have that armor to protect us from being killed spiritually. Therefore Paul urges us to put on that armor, and to keep it on every moment of our earthly lives.

We must put it on to withstand the crafty, subtle attack of Satan through his seed. We must hide behind the cross of Christ in the assurance that he did gain the victory for us. We must look away from Satan and the things he dangles before our eyes to tempt us.

Believe in Christ as your Savior, and use the faith that He has given you to stop all the bullets and spears of false doctrines whereby Satan seeks to destroy your faith. Put and keep your trust in God and in His Son. That trust and faith will keep you safe.

Quote for Reflection:

… the reason why God deals with such liberality towards us is, that we may be led to celebrate his praise; but at the same time he condemns our inconstancy, which hurries us away to any other object rather than to God.   - John Calvin
