PREFACE:

This booklet contains, in printed form, the three speeches that were given in January 2007 at the Winter Conference sponsored by the Evangelism Committee of the First Protestant Reformed Church of Holland, MI.  The theme for this conference was “The Antithesis: Godly Living in Ungodly Times.”

This topic is relevant in light of the fact that the term itself (“antithesis”) has been largely forgotten.  In addition to this, the important truth that the term expresses, as well as the practical application of it to the Christian life, is often denied, and even opposed, in this age of tolerance and ecumenism.  For these reasons we felt it beneficial to treat this subject.

We express our appreciation to the three speakers for their timely lectures, which set forth very clearly the calling of God’s people as they live in the midst of a world that increases daily in wickedness.

It is our hope and prayer that God may be pleased to use this booklet as a means to keep us steadfast in the faith and in our walk of life.  May His Word in I John 2:15-17 be our guide:

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
