Additional Resources on PRC Synod 2014

Acts of Synod 2014-coverThough the PRC Synod of 2014 completed its work over a month ago (June 10-13), two new resources are available on its work and decisions.

First, the 2014 Acts of Synod & Yearbook has been published and distributed to the churches for our members. This publication is the official, public record of the decisions of this year's Synod, as well as the annual, updated directory of churches, ministers, committees, and officers of the PRC.

Second, the July 2014 issue of The Standard Bearer is the annual "Synod" issue, with a report on Synod's actions by Prof.B.Gritters in the editorial ("Synod 2014: The PRC Working Together") and many pictures featured in the center as well as on the cover of this Reformed magazine (see image below).

Contact Committee Delegation to Visit EPC in Australia

Australia mapToday, July 16, Rev. Nathan Decker and Prof.Russell Dykstra (from Singapore) travelled to Brisbane, Australia on behalf of the Contact Committee of our denomination. While there, they will be participating in a conference on the doctrine of the covenant (July 19), leading worship in the Brisbane congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Australia (July 20), and serving as observers at the denomination’s presbytery meetings (July 21-24).

On July 24, Rev.Decker will then travel to Singapore in order to lead the worship services of the Covenant ERC on July 27, while Prof.Dykstra remains in Australia to deliver some speeches on Christian education.

We pray that God would give them traveling mercies and bless their time and work with fellow saints and churches of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sem. Ryan Barnhill Begins Internship in Edgerton PRC

Ryan Miranda Mya -Sioux Falls - Summer 2014Today, July 1, 2014, Seminarian Ryan Barnhill (class of 2015) began his internship in Edgerton, MN PRC He will be mentored by the pastor, Rev. Douglas Kuiper, as well as be under the supervision of the Seminary professors.

During the internship, which will run through the end of the year (Dec.31), Sem.Barnhill will be exposed to and involved in many of the aspects the ministry of the Word, including making and delivering sermons, teaching catechism, leading Bible societies, making pastoral calls, and sitting in on Council meetings. In addition, there are special readings and reports he is required to make.

Ryan and Miranda and their daughter Mya moved to Edgerton last Thursday (June 26) and have begun to settle into their temporary home in town. Their current address is 110 Center St., P.O. Contact Committee News - Special Summer Visits

The Contact Committee of the PRC informs the churches of these special visits to sister churches and other contacts in June and July

RDykstra1On Wednesday of this week (June 18, 2014) on behalf of the Contact Committee, Prof. and Mrs. R.Dykstra are scheduled to leave the States for eight weeks, D.V.  Prof. Dykstra will be speaking and preaching in the Covenant Evangelical Reformed Church in Singapore since Rev. A.Lanning and his family will be coming to the States for a furlough.

The Dykstras will also be in Australia for two weeks where Rev. N. Decker (Trinity PRC, Hudsonville, MI) and Prof. R.Dykstra will participate in a conference with the Evangelical Presbyterian Churcheson the doctrine of God’s covenant. They will also be attending the sessions of the Presbytery meeting July 21-25 in Brisbane. Prof. Dykstra will give speeches on Christian schools the following week in Tasmania. 

NathanDeckerThe Dykstras will return on August 11. May God grant them safety in their travels and His indispensible blessing on the work.

Rev.A.Spriensma (Byron Center PRC) and Elder Peter Vander Schaaf will meet with the elders of BERG (Confessing Evangelical Reformed Church) in Giessen, Germany this July on behalf of our denomination's Contact Committee. Rev.A.Spriensma will preach for the worship service of the BERG on July 27.

Synod 2014 - Report on Day 4 (Closing Sessions)

Once more 2nd clerk of Synod, Rev.Clay Spronk, provides a summary report of the decisions of the Friday June 13 session of Synod (also attached in pdf form). And Don Doezema provides us with some candid photos of all the delegates as they fellowshiped together and interacted concerning the work of the Lord's church. The public Acts of Synod 2014 will be published and distributed in due time.

PRC Seminary Graduation 2014 - Joshua Engelsma

The PR Theological School (Seminary) held its graduation ceremony Thursday evening in Hope PRC, Walker, MI. Senior Joshua D. Engelsma (now Candidate J.Engelsma) was this year's graduate, having sustained his oral examination before Synod June 10-12
