What do you consider to be the most valuable thing that man can receive? What above all do you desire to have? If our God would promise to give it to you, for what would you ask?
There is in Psalm 84 a verse, namely, the 10th, where we find a sincere, believing child of God asking for what, at first, we might consider to be improper. We read, "For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness."
Get that truth! One day in God's house is better than a thousand outside of it. For if we are not in God's house pretty soon, we will be with Satan in hell with its torment. There is nothing better than God's kingdom where fellowship with Him is a most blessed life.
Then, too, to be a doorkeeper, stationed almost outside of that house of many mansions, is a most wonderful experience. We do and will have fellowship with God. Being His servant at the door is an extremely rich and wonderful blessing. It is not only being completely free from the curse, which we deserve, but also enjoying sweet communion with God.
The psalmist does not want to be there for only one day. But he does consider one day there to be far more wonderful than being cut off from fellowship and communion with God.
Plainly this reveals a sinner whose heart is very close to God. It reveals a sincere love of God. We should examine our hearts and look to see whether we have that love.
Do you want to be there? Do you consider God's kingdom, and fellowship with Him through Christ, as the most wonderful place and experience that there can be? Are you looking forward to enjoying this? Indeed, blessed is the man that trusteth in God.
